Amitav Ghosh’s The Calcutta Chromosome presents a provocative rethinking of science, knowledge production, and authority within a postcolonial framework. Moving beyond conventional narratives of scientific discovery, the novel interrogates the epistemological foundations of Western science by foregrounding marginalised, subaltern forms of knowledge. This article examines how Ghosh destabilises dominant scientific discourses by presenting alternative systems of knowing that challenge empiricism, rationality, and institutional authority.
